Both Worlds to expand to other side of the road
(Taken from Panorama Magazine)
Things are moving fast at Both Worlds which is poised to become a major retirement homes area, with an additional 300 units to be built on the other side of the road. Enough to make anyone enthusiastic.

The development of retirement homes in Gibraltar is the brainchild of Abe Massias, chairman of ABCO International. "There is a great future in retirement homes," he enthuses.

His confidence in such a concept heightens as he peruses plans for the new, multi-million extension to Both Worlds. On the other side of the road, resting on the natural slope down to the beach. As many as 300 retirement homes, plus leisure amenities like swimming pools. A truly spectacular plan.

The present site continues to be refurbished to make way for more and more retirement homes under the British sun. Already 10 units have been actually sold, as a new marketing campaign gets off the ground.

A total of 35 units have already been refurbished to the exacting standards demanded in retirement homes. The whole area is receiving the attention it merits - and when the road is finally completed by the Government it will add to the already scenic beauty of Both Worlds.

The project is being sold under the slogan "Retire to Gibraltar and get the Best of Both Worlds", a most appropriate message directed mainly to the UK market. London-like bobbies, low crime rate, the fluttering Union Jack.

Involved in the scheme are retirement homes specialists Girling. Managing Director Peter Girling says: "We believe that UK residents wishing to retire to Gibraltar will be reassured by the presence of a UK based company who are members of the Association of Retirement Housing Managers."

And trade and industry minister Peter Montegiffo backs the idea, saying Gibraltar has a great deal to offer the British retired market.

Certainly it has, while providing a useful economic spin-off to the rest of the community.
